Govindgarh Palace - A Secret Royal Spot near Sanjay Dubri National Park

In 1951, the first white tiger named “Mohan” was discovered and rescued here by Raja Martand Singh of Rewa. Today, all white tigers around the world trace their roots back to Mohan.

Sanjay Tiger Reserve also serves an important ecological role as a wildlife corridor between Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh and Palamau Tiger Reserve in Chhattisgarh. Wild elephants often travel this route, moving freely across the forested regions. Safari Booking at Sanjay Dubri National Park

Jeep safari is the star attraction at Sanjay Dubri National Park. The safaris are operated in the morning and evening slots. Sanjay Dubri online safari booking can be done for prior reservations. Govindgarh Palace

Govindgarh Palace, situated approximately 13–18 km from Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, India, was once the summer capital of the Maharajas of Rewa. Constructed by Raja Raghuraj Singh in 1853, this majestic structure—also referred to as Govindgarh Fort—stands proudly on the banks of the picturesque Govindgarh Lake. Serving as a royal retreat for nearly a century, the palace is a significant symbol of Rewa’s regal heritage and cultural legacy.

Originally part of the vast Rewa princely state under the Bagelkhand Agency, Govindgarh was integrated into the Indore Residency after the agency's dissolution in 1933. The palace complex showcases a stunning blend of royal architecture, complete with temples dedicated to Lord Rama and Krishna and a shrine honouring Maharaja Gulab Singh. The palace features remarkable areas, including the magnificent Durbar Hall and the elaborately crafted Pili Kothi.

Additionally, Govindgarh Palace is historically significant as it was once the residence of Mohan, the first white tiger found in India. Currently, it operates as a museum showcasing various artefacts, such as weapons, manuscripts, coins, and artworks from the royal lineage. After falling into disrepair following independence, efforts began in 2018 to restore the palace and convert it into a heritage hotel, bringing back its former splendour.

Entry Timings and Charges

Visitors can explore the palace daily from 10 am to 5:30 pm without any entry fee. Its well-preserved corridors and exhibits provide a window into the rich past of the Rewa dynasty. Nestled amid picturesque landscapes and sacred sites, Govindgarh Palace serves not only as a historical landmark but also as a lively reflection of the grandeur and culture inherent in the princely heritage of central India.
